Pan Am Cruise Miami to London 2025

Carol was invited to join a cruise with ex Pan Am employees out of Miami in April 2025

Miami was renewing itself by tearing down old building and putting up new ones

We arrived after the eager crowd had already boarded the ship. The Miami embarkation terminal was much nicer than the one in Houston

We were to sail on Royal Caribbean

Hoping that our luggage was included with all these bags to be loaded aboard

Leaving Miami and heading into the Atlantic

We are on board and ready for the fun to begin

Pools, hot tubs, water slides

The elegant main dining room occupied 3 levels. We shared a table of 8 on the second level.

This marble portrait of Shakespeare video was fascinating because the eyes would follow you and the head would turn as you walked past.
It was located at the entrance to the dining room.

Here is the explanation

The group of ex Pan Am employees enjoyed a dinner together in one of the specialty restaurants.
Carol is seated in the middle background.

Bermuda was our first stop. We found a pleasant restaurant with good WiFi.
We elected not to purchase WiFi on board as it was very expensive as a whole cruise package, no day at a time.

We had very good weather for our ocean crossing. This day was the roughest that we had. See video

This was the deepest part of the ocean that we saw on this monitor

Our second stop was Porta Delgada in the Azores, Portugal

The Portuguese are noted for their wonderful street designs

A very pleasant street scene in Porta Delgada

These arches were a focal point of the city

We tried to talk this guy into giving us a ride back to the ship, but he was not cooperative.

When we departed, the ship blew its horn, a great low note!

As we entered the Tagus River in Lisbon, Portugal, we saw this monument commermorating the Portuguese Age of Discovery
during the 15th and 16th centuries. It is shaped like the prow of a ship and features the figures of that era, Henry the Navigator,
Vasco de Gama and Ferdinand Magellan.

The 25 de Abril Bridge over the Tagus River was designed by the same company the designed the San Francisco bridge

The Sanctuary of Christ the King overlooking Lisbon. It was inspired by the Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Praca do Comercio or commercial square

We took a taxi to show us some of the sites. This is the Church of Our Lady of Grace located on Lisbon's highest hill.

The Church of Santa Luzia originally built by the Order of Malta Knights in the 1100s. It was rebuilt after the 1755 Lisbon earthquake.

Apparently this is how the locals deal with the hills

The nice tiles on this building caught my eye

Part of the Pan Am group visited this restaurant

Stu, an ex Pan Am pilot recommended this restaurant and we had a nice lunch

We stopped by a pasty shop but had no appetite left. Scott said he liked the creme filled ones

Lisbon has wonderful pedestrian streets

Our taxi driver gave us a tip about the street lights. The light on the left has only 4 panes for a minor street.
The lights on the right have six panes for a major street.

Time to depart Lisbon. We really enjoyed this port!

Vigo, Spain was our next stop. We again hired a taxi to show us the sights

We were taken to a wonderful old park and saw a wedding in progress

I am guessing that the low structures in the water are oyster farms

A 50 Euro note was worth about $57 USD at the time. Our next stop is the UK which has reverted to the Pound since Brexit.
$50 USD was worth about 37 GBP.

This year the UK started requiring ETA, Electronic Travel Authorization, which cost 10 Pounds. Their web site automatically links the ETA to your Passport.

Back on the ship and enjoying breakfast with an ocean view

The ship docked in Southhampton so we had a really long taxi ride to our hotel in London

The Royal Horseguards was an absolutely lovely hotel with this sycamore lined park in front

We had this view of the Thames River and the London Eye from our room

The London Eye was illuminated at night with changing color lights. Notice the full moon rise in the background.

I think this looks more like a bicycle wheel

We were within walking distance to this museum

We bought tickets for a Hop on Hop off 4 hour bus tour of London. Here is a short video clip
