Bahamas via Orlando
February 2005

Carol and I stayed a few days with David and Laura at their beautiful home in Winter Park, a community near Orlando, FL.

Dave cooked up some great meals and we had fun watching a movie on his monster TV.

Many years ago the cypress trees around the lakes near Orlando were harvested by a logging company. A series of canals were constructed to connect the lakes to facilitate the logging operation. We are at the tour boat dock.
The boat ride gave us a chance to see the homes along the lakes and canals. A fun outing!
On another day we visited Laura's horse, Malichi.

After visiting the horse farm, David and Laura took us to a restaurant at this dock.

We met Joe and Reta at the Columbia Restaurant in Celebration, FL near Disney World. Joe treated us to a great dinner. Reta's camera takes excellent pictures. Click for a larger image.

Departing Ft. Lauderdale via a Bombardier turbo prop.
click for larger image I thought it was unusual for the crew to leave the cockpit door open during the entire flight.
Carol was pleased to find that every seat was both a window and an aisle seat.
On the Josephine at Lucaya Marina, Grand Bahamas.
We enjoyed exploring the Lucaya area with Carl and Pat. Here we are at a beach resort with a parasailer flying by in the background. Another view of beach resort
Carol browsing in one of the markets.
Checking out the town.
High power Police boat with three 250 hp motors. Bet this was fast but never saw it leave the dock.
After all that walking around town, it was time for the pool!
Tom and Katrina on their boat in the neighboring slip invited us to go deep sea fishing one day.
Katrina enjoyed the sun deck with one of their two dogs.
At first, we fished with enthusiasm eager to see what we would catch.
Many sun baked hours later we were less enthusiastic but still hopeful. Tom did get one strike but it threw the hook and we never got a chance to see it.
Another day, Carl announced it was time to catch some lobsters for dinner. He had a wet suit and I had my enthusiasm.
Carl scored the first lobster!

What a thrill when I got one too!

It certainly is easy to run out of air while diving, cocking the spear and searching under the coral heads.

We finished the day with our three plus a few purchased from the native fishermen.
The Koppiers joined us for a great lobster dinner.
Carol showing us her grapefruit peeling skills. Reta gave us two big bags of wonderful grapefruit from her trees to bring to the boat. Our luggage was heavy but we enjoyed eating them.
One last lunch in Lucaya before departure day.
A wonderful trip visiting family in Florida and the Bahamas. We had a super time thanks to Joe, Reta, Dave, Laura, Tom, Kat, Carl & Pat.
