California Road Trip - May 2001

Carol at Asilomar State Park and Conference Center on her birthday.

View from our room.
We wasted little time getting down to the water for some serious beachcombing!
Looks like she is having some luck.
There was kelp on the beach. A lot of it must wash ashore or perhaps no one collects kelp :-)
Walking up from the beach to our room, I saw a fawn in the woods.
The mother and 2 fawns look small compared to the cars.

Waiting by the seashore for our table to be ready at the restaurant.

Leaving Asilomar, we took the famous Seventeen Mile Drive toward Carmel

Seagull hoping for leftovers as the Sea Otter eats his lunch on his back.

Seal Rock has a vertically striated population. The wet animals near the water line are Harbor Seals. The larger brown animals above them are Sea Lions. The dark birds are Cormorants and Seagulls are at the top. (Click for enlargement)

We stopped at one of the most photographed spots along the Seventeen Mile Drive, Lone Cypress.

(Click for a view of the tree without us in the way)

After seeing the sights, Carol decided it was time for a picnic at Carmel Beach.
This little guy was brazen enough to steal the crumbs from between my feet.

An ocean hole of the Pebble Beach Golf Course is at the top right.

After a meal in the sun, this can easily happen.

Perhaps she has dreams of the seashells

Before leaving, we stopped to photograph the Carmel Mission

As we left Carmel Valley, we looked back to see the evening fog rolling in.
