Canoeing on the Rio Grande
Memorial Day 2007

We hauled our canoes along with a couple of friends, Tricia and Greg, to the river in our old classic 1972 truck that we call "The Harley".

We have all our gear assembled and are ready to put into the river. This is the place where we also bring our dogs to play.

Note Sandia Crest in the background.

The Rio Grande Valley State Park has prevented housing development along part of the river so nice woodland views like this are preserved.

We are happy to be canoeing again. A string of dry winters did not provide enough snow melt for good canoeing.

This is my old Mohawk canoe that Scott and I paddled in the Atlantic surf.

Carol is looking at all the mud swallows nests under the blue ledge on the bridge. Dozens of swallows flew out as we approached.
The peculular looking cage on the side of the Montano Bridge is a place for pedestrains to stop and view the river.
Frequently, we have had the river to ourselves, but this being Memoral holiday we were joined by a wooden drift boat on the far left and a person in an inflateable kayak.
We drifted past the Westcliffe condominiums where we used to live.
The pleasant day on the river is over and we are at the take out place at Central Bridge, old Route 66.
