Mexico Car Trip June 2003
Anne, Carol and Jerry

We decided to drive secondary roads through NM and AZ on our way to Mexico.

Here is a view of the VLA or Very Large Array, the largest radio telescope facility in the world consisting of 27 of these antenna in a pattern like a Y.

Heading down Hwy 191 in eastern AZ we passed this target tree. Click image for a closer view.
This is the Morenci open pit copper mine.

After picking up Anne at the Tucson Airport, we continued down to the Inn at San Ignacio in Green Valley for the night.

We used the Mariposa border crossing at Nogales and drove on Mexican toll road 15 to the 21km checkpoint then on to Hermosillo for an excellent grilled lunch at Xochimilco Restaurant.
Saguaros welcomed us at the entrance to Paradiso Resort (formerly Club Med).
Huge pool next to the lagoon.

Here we are at Paradiso Resort

Carol and Anne blew up the air mattresses and were soon putting them to good use.
Little did we know at sunset that we would be rounding the peninsula behind us in sea kayaks the next morning.
Anne at the beach enjoying the sun which unfortunately gave her a bit of a burn.

We kayaked out into the Sea of Cortez rounded a peninsula then entered a channel into this quiet lagoon.
