Albuquerque - Aztec - Moab Trip April 2006
Healds and Ken Levan

Ken & the Healds meet in Aztec, NM
Ken grew up just down the street from the Aztec Ruins. We enjoyed touring them with him.
Nice stone work
View through interconnecting rooms
Ken said his Boy Scout Troup used to hold their meetings in this kiva.
Passing through Moab, Utah
Typical southern Utah views
This is site # 6 at Dead Horse Point State Park. Great views and night time star gazing but really poor TV reception which is not surprising.

Fantastic view of the Colorado from Dead Horse Point! Potash Road visible in foreground.

A photo op where you should not step back!

After enjoying the scenic vistas, it was time for a raft trip on the Colorado.
Richard was our knowledgeable tour guide.

Pictures were taken on the calm stretches of the river. Cameras were stowed away when we heard the rapids ahead.
Richard telling river tales.
There was nothing stronger than Class II rapids on this section of the Colorado.

View of the snow covered Manti La Sal Mountains. We were headed for a loop road through them.
View down Castle Valley from the Manti La Sal loop road. Community of Castle Valley in the left background.
Some old buildings in Castle Valley

This is a view of the Shafer Trail descent to the White Rim Road.
The White Rim Road can be faintly seen this side of the chasms. The Green River is in the background.

This is part of the info sign posted just before the Shafer Trail descent.

The Moab area has some nice petroglyphs.

On our way back from the rock art tour, we saw this jeep club playing on the Moab Rim 4WD trail.

All too soon it was time to leave Moab. Here is Ken and his Airstream by Wilson Arch.
