The plan was to fly a couple of days early to Barcelona where the cruise originated. This would allow for possible travel disruptions or at the least a chance to recover from jet lag. Carol & I were aboard the first leg from ABQ to DFW and were revving the engines at the end of the runway in preparation for takeoff when the plane was called back to the boarding gate. All passengers were asked to deplane and move back beyond the security checkpoint. Our hearts sank when we saw a crowd of what looked like a thousand people queued at security. Our connection time in Dallas for our NYC flight was only 55 minutes and there was no way we were going to make that. The plan to rendezvous with Jane in NYC and fly to Barcelona together was in jeopardy.
Salvation came via a very helpful gate attendant that rerouted us to NYC over Cincinnati. We were given a priority call to come through security and board the new flight. We did arrive in NYC and meet Jane in time for the Barcelona flight.
We flew through the night high over the Atlantic on a Boeing 767 with GE engines. I was listening to the hum of the engines thinking how important reliability is :-)
Dawn arrived to present us with a beautiful view of the Pyrenees covered deep in snow.
