Telluride - Aspen
July-August, 2006

Caravanning from ABQ to Telluride with a stop here at the Farmington Riverwalk.

Lisa, Conner & Rod Sly, Wayne Kelly & Jerry

Settled in at site #7 in the Matterhorn Campground about 12 miles South of Telluride. We enjoyed the cool invigorating air.

Potluck dinner with salmon, roses and wine.

Notice the jackets in July!

Conner was the only child on the rally but seemed to be enjoying himself.

The bike carrier on the front of our Yukon worked well.

Start of a bike ride from 10,220' Lizardhead Pass 6.5 miles down the Galloping Goose Trail back to our campground.

Lisa, Inge, Dennis, Jerry, Carol, Rod and Conner.

Note the RVs in the background. I want to try boondocking here someday.

This is fantastic biking country. This trail was all gently downhill, a great ride!

No one except Conner was in much of a hurry.
We passed this old railroad trestle.
Posing by Trout Lake. Even though it is late July, you can still see pockets of snow in the mountains.

Dinner at the Rustico, a very nice Telluride restaurant.

Watch out for the killer wine list.

Carol hosted the group breakfast.

While camping at Matterhorn, I celebrated my 65th B.D.
A glass of wine to end a good day.
Next it was on to Aspen. We passed the Aspen airport filled with private planes. We were told that on 4th of July weekends, the airport is so congested that it has to turn flights away.
This is one of the nice pedestrian streets in Aspen.
Dinner with Eric & Donna at Boogies Diner.
After dinner, we enjoyed some street jazz.

Carol kept picking and eating these berries found in the campground.

She was sure that they were blueberries but I don't think so.

Site #8 at Difficult Campground was the most secluded we have ever found in a public campground.

Scenic I-70 through the Colorado canyon between Glenwood Springs and Gypsum.
Little town of Minturn, CO.
Memorial to the 990 troops of the 10th Mtn. Division who trained here and died in Northern Italy in WWII.

Mainstreet in Leadville, America's highest city at over 10,000'.

The windshield view of the bikes is not as distracting as it appears.

A beaver dam we saw on our way into O'Haver Campground.
Our campsite looks nice but O'Haver Lake Campground was full of motorcycles and ATVs.
We end our travelogue with this tranquil fishing scene at O'Haver Lake.
